Earned Media Lead – Content Studio



Managing across a complex matrixed agency environment, the Earned Media Lead for the Content Studio is responsible for developing earned media plans and implementing earned media strategies for projects emanating from the Content Studio. The Content Studio serves as an “always on” digital newsroom generating surprising and meaningful content relevant to the Ford brand. As a manager within the Content Studio, the Earned Media Lead will be responsible for developing significant content initiatives and plans, managing the earned media team within the Content Studio and working collaboratively with the Content Studio teams of Team Detroit and the global WPP blended PR agency team. Working within an “always on” environment, the Earned Media Lead will be responsible for driving strategies and initiatives for both long-term initiatives and for short turnaround, event-responsive efforts. The Earned Media Lead will support the effort to provide greater communication and integration between the communications and marketing teams and help foster a spirit of collaboration within the team. The Earned Media Lead will report to the WPP Team Ford Global Account Lead and will have a “dotted line” report to the Director of the Content Studio.


  • Serves as the Dearborn-based point person for the WPP Team Ford Global Account Lead, ensuring the flow of information and best management practices across the team
  • Leads the development of long-term earned media strategies for the Content Studio, including the development of content ideas with significant earned media opportunities
  • Manages the earned media team within the Content Studio
  • Develops overall distribution planning for content across all earned media platforms in coordination with the Ford Communications staff and with the Team Ford PR team
  • Develops systems and processes for the earned media team to respond to short term and “always on” opportunities to help position Ford in the real time digital and social media conversation
  • Identifies analytic insights to optimize distribution plans and opportunities
  • Ensures and coordinates paid and earned media opportunities across marketing communications and media communications (PR) channels
  • Supports messaging through owned channels as part of overall distribution plan


  • Thorough understanding of how audience and media consume, create and share media/content
  • Strong media/communications planning background – primarily in digital media – and strong understanding of social media platforms and how to manage messaging through them
  • Deep knowledge of earned media strategies, with special emphasis on digital and social media influencers and outlets
  • Understands evolving digital technologies and ways to leverage them
  • Ability to develop ideas into mass media/experiential opportunities
  • Experience managing staff and working within a complex matrixed environment
  • Successful track record of working within small and large teams to develop content ideas
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Agency digital/broadcast/video business production experience
  • At least 10 years of relevant digital, earned media or media content experience, ideally within both agency and corporate environments
